EASY ESCAPES FOR A FAMILY HOLIDAY
Getting away on family holidays is not always easy. Getting time off work, organising someone to look after the house and pets, and affording accommodation and travel can make the dream holiday hard to put into reality. Here are a few ideas to create some holiday fun for your family, without breaking the bank.
SET UP CAMP
A camping holiday can be great fun. If you can’t get away to a campground, try creating one at home. Little ones don’t need too many bells and whistles to enjoy a memorable holiday. Set up a tent in the lounge with sheets over the furniture and pull in little mattresses and bedding. Sleeping somewhere other than their normal bed will be so exciting. If you have a play tent, set it up outside and try sleeping under the stars for a night or two.
SLEEPOVERS
When your child is old enough, a sleepover at a friend or cousin’s house can be thrilling. A change of scene is as good as a holiday after all. Be sure to pack a bag with some home comforts such as a favourite teddy, drink bottle and book, to help ease the new surroundings.
NANA’S HOUSE
Another great place to visit and stay the night is nana and granddad’s house. Most grandparents love to spoil their grandkids, so favourite dinners, treats and special breakfasts are often on the menu. Again, a bag with your child’s special soft toy, book and blanket can help them feel comfortable.
HOUSE SWAP
If you have friends in another town who fancy a holiday too, why not arrange a house swap for a few days. This is a cheap and easy way to try a new town and surroundings, often with the benefit of bikes and toys ready for use at your holiday home. Leave notes for each other with your favourite local spots such as
playgrounds, parks and cafes.
